SHARIATPUR, Mar 25: A mother of two children has died after getting trapped in a running irrigation pump, which police and locals said had been operating for long in an unsafe condition without any barriers around it.
The victim has been identified as Rozina Begum, 35, wife of Ibrahim Sardar.
Despite repeated report on the unsafe condition of the pump, the owner did not pay any heed, locals say. The woman's head and body were crushed inside the machine along the road while she was going to the market in the morning about a week ago.
Resident Md Ali said they have been asking the owner for a long time to put a fence around the machine. "But those who installed it did not listen to us. Today, this death has happened because of them. We want justice for the guilty."
District Fire Service Station Leader Selim Mia said they found the woman's body stuck in the machine and brought it out.
Palang Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abir Hossain said legal action will be taken based on the complaint of the victim's family.
