Woman killed, grandson hurt as truck ploughs into their house

LALMONIRHAT, Jan 13 (UNB): A speeding truck ploughed into a roadside house leaving an elderly woman killed and her grandson injured in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat early Monday.

The deceased, Nuri Begum, and the injured, Abdullah, were asleep when the accident occurred in Patikapara Bottala of the upazila, said Mahmudun-Nabi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatibandha Police Station.

The truck, loaded with goods, veered off the road after the driver lost control, ploughing into the tin shed house leaving Nuri Begum dead on the spot, the OC said. Fire service personnel were alerted and arrived at the scene, rescuing Abdullah after around an hour and a half of efforts.

However, Nuri Begum's body was recovered about four hours later.
