Woman, son die in house collapse during storm

A 9-month pregnant woman and her five-year-old son died as their house collapsed on them during a storm at Hazipara Ghonar Bari in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district on Saturday, report agencies.

The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday in Niamatpur village, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Karimganj thana.

The dead are Ruptara Begum (45) and her son Taijul (5). Ruptara's husband, farmer Abdul Qayuum, said she had been pregnant.

"Ruptara and her son Taijul were sleeping after dinner in their tin home," OC Mizanur said. A Kalboishakhi, or nor'wester storm, began around midnight and a tree fell on Abdul Qayuum's house at midnight."
