Woman strangulated to death, nurse commits suicide in Pabna

PABNA, Jan 27: An unidentified woman was strangulated to death in Santhia Upazila of Pabna while a nurse committed suicide inside the Pabna Nursing Institute campus. The victims were sent to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy Monday.

Of the victims, Nawshin Sultana, 20, daughter of Abdul Gafur of village Shomshadipur in Motihar of Rajshahi was a second year student of Nursing, said Momtaz Begum, instructor of Pabna Nursing Institute.

Nawshin hanged herself inside the dormitory of the nursing institute at about 10pm on Sunday. Students of the institute found her body and informed police.

Officer-in-charge of Pabna sadar police station Kazi Haniful Islam said the body of the victim was recovered from the institute early Monday and sent to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The reason behind the suicide is yet to be learnt, the OC said.

A UD case was filed with Pabna sadar police station in this regard.

Meanwhile, Santhia thana police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Ichhamati dyke in Dhopadah village of Santhia Upazila in the district Sunday evening.

The victim, aged about 20 was strangulated to death and was dumped in the Ichhamati dyke, said Md Ahad Ali, officer-in-charge of Santhia police station. The reason behind the murder is yet to be known as the identity of the victim is not confirmed, the OC said.
