International Women's Day- 2015 was observed in different districts of the country on Sunday stressing the need for women empowerment for socio- economic development of the country, reports BSS.

In Thakurgaon, speakers at a discussion stressed the need for ensuring equal rights of the women for their empowerment through rooting out gender disparity for development of the society as well as humanity as a whole.

They were addressing a post-rally discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Department of Women Affairs (DWA) at the DWA office in the district town in observance of the day.

Member of the Parliament Selina Jahan Lita attended a discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Chandra Biswas in the chair. Police Super of Thakurgaon Abdur Rahim Shah attended as the special guest.

Our Correspondent from Magura adds: International Women's Day-2015 was observed in Magura as elsewhere in the country on Sunday with the slogan 'empowering women, empowering humanity'.

Rova foundation with the help of women affairs directorate organised different programmes in observance of the day. A rally was brought out in the town in the morning.

Later a discussion was held at Magura Deputy Commissioner's conference room. Rova Foundation Executive Director Kazi Kamruzzaman delivered the welcome speech. Magura Deputy Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rahman was the chief guest in the meeting with Magura district Women Affairs Officer Fatema Zohora in the chair.

The chief guest said we believe in empowering women. Education is the only way to deserve the empowerment.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent writes: Haor Infrastructure and Livelihood Improvement Project (HILIP) under the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) observed the International Women's Day-2015 in a befitting manner in the district on Sunday.

On the occasion, a rally from Brahmanbaria LGED Bhaban paraded different areas of the city.

The rally was led by the LGED Executive Engineer Md Sakhwat Hossain. HILIP District Project Coordinator Md Arman Rashid, LGED Senior Assistant Engineer Md Mamun Khan, LGED Assistant Engineer Md Jahangir Hossain, HILIP District monitoring & Evaluation officer Md Harunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Livelyhood coordinator Md Jakir Hossain and District Training Coordinator Khandaker Jakir Hossain participated in the rally.

Our Nilphamari Correspondent says: International Women's Day was observed in the district on Sunday in a befitting manner.

The programmes of the day were initiated through a rally organised by district women and children affairs office in collaboration with the district administration that paraded the main road of the municipality.

Elaborate programmes were also chalked out by different educational institutions, NGOs and social cultural organisations of the district. The day-long programmes of the day included discussion, cultural function, debate etc.
