Works on Char Asariadaha power plant project start in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 8: Isolated char villages under Char Asariadaha union of the district are going to be connected with electricity supply facilities within next six months.

It is learnt, aiming at connecting the isolated houses and markets of villages under Char Asariadaha union under electricity supply, construction works of a power plant has already been started there. On the first phase of the project, 1,000 houses and markets of the union will be brought under electricity supply facility within next six months.

According to sources, Char Asariadaha union situated on the river Padma adjoining to Indian border remained a hinterland for years. Due to absence of electricity and road communication, the people living in char villages mainly depend on agriculture and fisheries. Cultivation of land depends on fuel supply from Rajshahi and some well-off people use solar powered bulbs and fans in their houses.

 To supply electricity to the people of the union, the Ministry of Finance under financial assistance from World Bank has started to build a 148.5 Kilowatt Power Plant at Natun Gram area village. The construction work is being implemented by 'Ava Development Society'. After the completion of the project, electricity will be supplied to 1,000 houses and markets through 8.5 kilometre of supply lines.

Mesbah-ul-Haque, Senior Manager of Ava Development Society informed, Tk 66.262 million will be spent on construction of the power plant. The plant will use fuel for production of electricity at night and solar panels at day light.

Millat Hossain, Area Manager of the project informed, the project was being implemented by IDCOL and was being financed jointly by World Bank and the government of Bangladesh. Later on IDCOL handed over the project implementation work to Ava Development Society.

Golam Mostafa, Chairman of Char Asariadaha union informed, with the establishment of the power plant, the char villages will get the touch of development. He however, wished to finish the works in due time and to bring more villages under the union under electric supply network.
