NETRAKONA, May 21 (BSS): The speakers at a daylong workshop here on Tuesday said that the journalists could play an important role through projecting various news items in the media for motivating the people to take birth control methods for checking the population boom.
The workshop on " Role of journalists for creating mass awareness about family planning programmes to control population boom," organized by Netrakona district Family Planning Department held at the conference room of Netrakona circuit house here yesterday.
They also said "The newspersons have wider opportunity for building up public opinions and inspiring the people to raise resistance against all the barriers including superstitions, early marriage, women repressions, gender discriminations and fundamentalism on the ways to control the rising trend of birth rate in the country".
The speakers also underlined the importance of massive publication of the birth control methods of the family planning department to woo the people for adopting technique to build up small and planned family.
Administrator of Netrakona Zila parishad Motiur Rahman Khan and deputy commissioner Netrakona DR Abul Kalam Azad addressed at the workshop as chief guest and special guests respectively while deputy director of district family planning department Netrakona DR Golam Faruk was in the chair.
It was also addressed, among others, by additional deputy commissioner (general) Netrakona Abdullah- AL-Mamun, Thana health administrator of Netrakona sader Dr Abdul Gani, medical officer of Netrakona mother and child health care centre Dr Mahbubur Rahman and general secretary of Netrakona press club Muklesur Rahman Khan.
