Workshop on implementation of rural employment project held in Khulna

KHULNA, Feb 18: A day-long workshop on 'Implementation of Rural Employment and Road Management Project (RERMP-2 Ujjibito)' was held at Regional Training Centre of Khulna LGED comprising executive engineers, thana engineers, community organisers and representatives of PKSF on Monday.
Rokon Uddin Ahmed, Superintend Engineer of LGED Khulna Region addressed the workshop as chief guest in inaugural session. The inaugural session was presided over by Sayeed Shafiqul Islam, Executive Engineer LGED Khulna and addressed by Abdul Kuddus Mondal, Project Director of RERMP-2 as special guest and also by executive engineers of Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira and Narail districts.
The chief guest said that the RERMP-2 started its programme from July-2013, with financial assistance of European Union and Bangladesh Government under the supervision of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi divisions. The aim of the project is to improve the economic condition of the rural area and taking pioneering role to combat poverty elevation.
The workshop also informed that the project is being implemented with 2,590 female workers in 28 upazilas of Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira and Narail districts of 5,180 kilometers road maintenance work for two years term.
Farmers expect bumper mustard production
A BSS report says: Farmers of 10 districts of Khulna division are expecting a bumper production of mustard in the current rabi season. Encouraged by good yield of the winter crop and its fair price during the last several years, hundreds of farmers of the region have cultivated the winter crop on larger areas of land.
Easy cultivation process and lower production cost is also a reason behind popularity of mustard cultivation among the farmers in the area, said DAE officials and farmers.
