Youth killed by rivals in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 21 (UNB): A 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by members of a rival group in the district's Rupganj upazila on Wednesday night.

The dead is Rakib Hasan, son of Harun Mia of the upazila's Kathpotti area.

AFM Sayed, officer-in-charge of Rupganj thana, said Rakib and Sramik League leader Delwar Hossain had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.

The supporters of Delwar allegedly swooped on Rakib and stabbed him indiscriminately when he was returning home around 9.30pm, leaving him dead.

Angered by the murder, local people set a house on fire, creating tension in the area.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

"Efforts are on to arrest the attackers," said the OC.
