GAIBANDHA, Mar 30: Kacharibari of Zamindar Rajes Kanto Roy in Hat Bharatkhali of Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha stands as a witness of the times.
There was a zamindari in the house. The zamindar used to have various needs of the subjects. The kacharibari of the then zamindar was full of family members and newcomers.
After the partition of the country, the zamindar went to India with his entire family members.
But, almost 250 years have passed since he left, but the zamindar's Kacharibari stands as a witness of time.
The house is decorated with unique craftsmanship with lime surki. In the evolution of time, the house is now only forest.
At the funeral, the then zamindar's house is located in Hat Bharatkhali of Muktinagar Union under Saghata Upazila in Gaibandha. Gaibandha is 20km south of the district headquarters and Saghata upazila is 7km east north of Bonarpara.
No initiative has been taken to preserve this house of that zamindar even today. And behind the house, another Kachari house has been demolished.
Seven acres and 28 per cent of the land was donated by Zamindar Rajes Kant Roy to the temple.
When we spoke to Ripon Chandra and other people of the Hindu community in the area, they said they also heard the true history from their grandfather.
This Kacharibari was the center point of the large zamindari of the area. Here taxes were collected from the subjects.
Locals said King Rajes Kanto Roy built the Kastkali temple in the large estate of Bharatkhali area. The traditional Bharatkhali haat and Kalimandir were established in his efforts.
Chairman of Muktinagar Union Parishad Ahsan Habib Lion said the Gaibandha deputy commissioner has been requested many times for renovation of this traditional zamindar house. But, the authorities concerned did not take any initiative.
