18 more Nepalis die in monsoon, total death toll rises to 33

KATHMANDU, July 29 (Xinhua): Seventeen more persons died Saturday and one Friday night, the death toll due to floods and landslides caused by incessant rains has reached 33 across Nepal in the last week, local newspaper The Himalayan Times reported Sunday.
The break-up of the eighteen deaths are as follows: seven in Gulmi district landslide; four in Banke due to snake bites; respective two in Siraha, Dang and Sindhuli districts swept away by flood; one in Mahottari district due to house collapse.
The Nepali home ministry Saturday said that the incessant floods in southern Nepal's Terai region have directly affected about 86,000 people from 16,000 families.
The ministry said a meeting was held among Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, UN representatives, and that other national and international NGOs had decided to cope with the situation collectively. The meeting has decided to provide relief materials to the flood-affected people through the Nepal Red Cross Society in coordination with the Natural Calamities Disaster Management Committee.
