A tribute to Rafique-Ul Huq

Newspapers and social media have been stirred with the obituaries and lamentations since Saturday after the news of the demise of veteran lawyer Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq.
He was a staunch supporter of national politics and democratic rights. His voice was loud. And, he was a front warrior in times of crises. Everyone knows about his brave stand in the crucial situation of 1/11.
Be it talk shows or in the courtroom, Rafique-Ul Huq regularly spoke in favour of political rights. Under the special circumstances of 1/11, he handled the cases of the two imprisoned leaders fearlessly.
When no one dared to come forward in fear, he fought like a warrior inside and outside the court. He was vocal in establishing good governance and protecting the independence and image of the judiciary.
His experience, wisdom, know-how and respect in the fields of law made him a respected and acceptable figure in all circles.
He is no more among us but will be remembered as an extraordinary lawyer.
