Abduction around the country
May 08, 2014 00:00:00
Law and order situation around the country has sharply deteriorated during the last couple of months. Abduction and forced disappearance took place in a filmy style over the last week. Different social organisations expressed growing concern over security of people and assets saying this has now emerged as a major threat to security of people. Moreover, the recent climate of insecurity is affecting the investors' confidence in undertaking new investment plans.
Claiming that it is the ruling party which is involved in the growing incidents of abduction, secret killings and forced disappearances, the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged everyone to rally under her party's umbrella to begin a strong street movement to stop the heinous acts. On the other hand, the government is claiming that the opposition party is involved in the killings and abduction.
The common people are now concerned as well as agitated. In Naryanganj, a dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by the District Bar Association protesting the recent abduction and killing of their fellow lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and six others was observed spontaneously.
The ruling party leaders must stop patronising criminals as it is isolating them from the common people. At the same time, all the major political parties should stop the blame game and take effective measures against murder and abduction.
