ACC proposal to curb public sector corruption

I came to know from newspaper reports that the Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood on Monday expressed his dismay over the government's silence on an ACC proposal. In the proposal, according to Mahmud, the ACC expressed its willingness to work with the government to check corruption in big public sector projects. Mahmood informed that the government was yet to respond to his letter.
In a country, where corruption is regarded as one of the major impediments to development, such attitude from the government is really shocking and unacceptable as different research show that the corruption in the public sector enterprises eats up 2 per cent of the GDP.
Every day, we find a number of reports in different media revealing the stories of free-style corruption in various government departments. Considering this the ACC move to help the government in fighting corruption in public entities should be treated as a praiseworthy move.
I do not understand why the government is hesitant to accept the proposal of the anti-graft body.
