Acute crisis of rabies vaccine in Kushtia

January 20, 2026 00:00:00

Kushtia district has been facing a severe shortage of rabies vaccine in government hospitals for several months. The life-saving vaccine is unavailable at sub-district health complexes and the district hospital. What is more alarming is that private pharmacies also lack the vaccine, worsening the situation.

Often, people are being bitten by dogs, cats, and other animals. Due to the unavailability of vaccines, they are forced to either return home untreated or rush to distant districts for treatment, which is both time-consuming and costly. Rabies is a deadly disease and without timely vaccination, the risk of death is almost certain. As a result, the general public in the district is living in extreme fear and uncertainty.

This crisis with a critical vaccine highlights clear mismanagement by the authorities concerned. Therefore, we humbly request the health authorities and the government to ensure an adequate supply of rabies vaccine in all government hospitals in Kushtia district as soon as possible and take effective measures to prevent such a crisis in the future.
