Addressing July uprising victims' trauma

The July 2024 uprising, predominantly led by young university and college students, has changed the course Bangladesh's socio-political landscape. However, its aftermath has given rise to significant psychological challenges for those who were involved and got injured in the movement. They are now grappling with severe mental trauma. Many students are unable to resume their studies or return to normal life, while the families of the deceased continue to endure unimaginable grief.
Despite the magnitude of this crisis, there is an alarming lack of government initiatives to provide mental health support. Comprehensive counselling services, community awareness programmes, and targeted rehabilitation efforts are essential to aid these individuals in healing and rebuilding their lives.
The interim government and ministries concerned must prioritise this pressing issue. Failing to address the psychological repercussions would be tantamount to the state's betrayal of the heroes of the uprising.
