Addressing plight of DU-affiliated college students

June 03, 2021 00:00:00

Educational institutions have been closed for more than a year now. The students of schools and colleges are being promoted to next grade without taking any examinations. Public and private universities are conducting classes and exams virtually, and resolving their students' session jam issues. The Dhaka University authorities have reportedly decided to hold in-person final examinations of all academic years from July 1 by maintaining Covid-19 health guidelines. However, no one is thinking about the future of the students, who are studying in DU-affiliated seven colleges. Around 250,000 tertiary-level students, who are now enrolled with Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Government Titumir College, do not know when they will be able to sit for their in-person exams and get promoted to the next semester.

The students of DU-affiliated colleges are now spending their days aimlessly. Although, there are some colleges which conduct online classes for their students but these colleges cannot arrange exams, neither can they promote the students to the next level. We are now waiting impatiently for our remaining exams to be over so that we can shoulder some of our family responsibilities by starting career. We, wholeheartedly, urge the authorities to take initiatives so that we can resume our in-person educational activities.
