Addressing traffic issues at Mahakhali

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are totally indifferent to the sufferings that the commuters and motor vehicle drivers endure day after day because of the traffic congestion in front of the Mahakhali Bus terminal.

Inter-district buses are parked in two to three rows on both side of the road that connects Satmatha with Mahakhali police box crossings. Even U-loops are not spared. Buses are kept haphazardly, as none bothers to ask the bus drivers not to park their vehicles illegally. Traffic police personnel remain stationed at that place from dawn to middle of the night. But they are found uninterested in disciplining the traffic there for understandable reasons.

The DNCC reportedly has a plan to shift the terminal somewhere else. Until that is done, the corporation should ensure smooth traffic flow in the area in question.
