Addressing water-logging and other woes of Jurain

Jurain is not too far from downtown Dhaka. Ever since the Mayor Hanif Flyover was opened for transportation, it did not take much time to reach this neighbourhood from the central parts of the capital. Many real estate companies have built a number of apartments in this area. It is also one of the most over-populated parts of Dhaka city. But the area seems to be neglected by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) for long.

The roads and lanes of Jurain are very narrow. And both sides of the roads are occupied by street traders. As a result, cars and rickshaws cannot move smoothly. Water-logging is a permanent problem here. Most of the narrow roads remain filled with sewage throughout the year. And in the dry season, people cannot see objects even a few yards away due to a thick layer of dust in the air. In addition to typhoid, jaundice, diarrhoea, and skin diseases, people of this area often suffer from constant coughing due to intolerable dust pollution.

We, the people of Jurain, wish to bring this issue to the notice of the DSCC authorities and strongly urge them to resolve our water-logging problem and also repair and expand the roads for the safety and security of thousands of people.
