Anomalies mar fourth phase of upazila polls
March 25, 2014 00:00:00
It has been proved again in the fourth phase of upazila elections that the present Election Commission (EC) doesn't have the ability to perform independently as it has utterly failed to hold a fair election. The fourth phase of upazila elections, full of anomalies and violence, claimed the life of four people which is really unacceptable. We were totally taken aback when we heard the Election Commissioner expressed its "satisfaction".
To the utter surprise of the common people, one of the ruling party leaders even claimed that the fourth phase of upazila elections was "fairer" than the previous three phases "as the Election Commission controlled law and order situation with an iron hand"! Such ludicrous remark only makes the ruling party leaders disconnected from the reality. In a polling centre, 22 votes were cast within one minute which should get a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
