Anti-World Cup protest in Brazil
May 25, 2014 00:00:00
The world is eagerly waiting for the World Cup football to commence as it is the biggest sport festival on earth. As elsewhere in the world, the sports-lovers of Bangladesh are also waiting for this mega event to unfold.
Now we are two weeks away from this grand event and I can feel the excitement in air. Everyone knows that this time the tournament is going to be held in Brazil. Many people in Brazil are not happy about the World Cup being held in their country, they are not happy also on the 2016 Olympic which will be held in Brazil. They think during the precarious time of their economy they should not have taken the burden of the World Cup soccer and Olympic. But as Brazil has already made its commitment, all the Brazilians should help to hold the tournaments properly as it is a prestige issue for their country.
We regularly read reports on Brazil being ravaged by a wave of fiery protests. The demonstrators are accusing officials of widespread corruption and pumping money into the events and neglecting important social issues like health and education. I hope the World Cup tournament will be held in a peaceful atmosphere. Once the tournament starts, I am sure the football crazy Brazilians will forget everything and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of football.
