We need to create awareness about autism as the number of autistic children is increasing in our country. The parents and relatives of autistic children live with a feeling of grief and despair. When someone comes to know that his/her child has autism, he/she is mentally devastated and takes years to finally accept it. Thanks to the internet, now we can learn a lot about this ailment and also about things to be done to take care of these children. As a result, the number of special schools for autistic children is gradually increasing.
But we still need to go a long way to create a society where an autistic person can live with ease and comfort. The government is yet to take any concrete steps to reduce sufferings of this neglected section of our society. Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder which is characterized by impaired social, non-verbal and verbal communications. The science is yet to find the exact reason behind the autism syndrome and its cure. Taking care of an autistic child is very taxing emotionally, financially and mentally. I hope we will not observe a special day ceremonially for the autistic children but take some concrete steps instead to improve their lives and induct them into our mainstream society.
