Avoiding civil society\\\'s request for dialogue
February 12, 2015 00:00:00
I was very happy when I learnt that the civil society of the country has put forward a proposal to the President, the Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to hold a dialogue and break the present political stalemate. Unfortunately, the ruling party leaders rejected it outright. It is really beyond the comprehension of common people as to how the present political crisis can be overcome without the ruling party meeting the opposition. It looks like the ruling party wants to bring peace by using force only which is an absurd idea. The reason behind the ruling party's reluctance to meet the opposition is understandable. But it cannot remain in power by sidetracking the popular opinion for long. We have seen in the recently concluded Delhi elections that a powerful party like Congress could not win a single seat due to their distance from the common people. No matter what excuse the ruling party puts up to avoid dialogue, it will not be acceptable to the common people as they are frustrated with the ongoing political turmoil and want peace to be restored immediately. I hope the ruling party will shun the path of repression and negotiate the path of dialogue, as in the long run it will be beneficial for everyone in the country including the present ruling people.
