We are glad to know that the communications ministry is contemplating to impose a bar on possession of more than one private car by a family in Dhaka. We, nowadays, see too many private cars plying on the streets creating immense pressure on the existing infrastructure. It will discourage people to own more cars than they need to commute. But, in the long run, the government should bring a drastic change in our present public transport.
We cannot deny that traffic congestion in cities is a common problem and different kinds of methods are being used to reduce it. Our public transport sector is totally in a shambles. We need to improve it a lot so that common people are discouraged to buy private vehicles and fewer private vehicles on the streets means less traffic congestion.
Many of our valuable working hours are lost in gridlock every day. Many families in Dhaka have a number of cars. Low price of CNG fuel encourages people to buy personal cars. Pathetic public transport system is also responsible for encouraging people to own private cars. We hope the government will introduce some rules and regulations so that we don't have too many personal vehicles on the streets of Dhaka.
