We see a sharp rise in mugging and snatching incidents during Ramadan, particularly just before Eid. In Dhaka many prefer shopping a little late at night when the traffic is thin and weather is cool unlike daytime. Again there are others who are just the reverse. They feel insecure to do shopping at night. As a result, we see more traffic during the daytime near shopping complexes as well as the adjacent areas. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) should take adequate security measures so that the city is free from muggers and other miscreants during night so that people can shop freely without fear. Working women cannot go for shopping during daytime as they remain professionally busy. Many among these ladies are free after 10 pm and would like to like to shop at that time if they feel safe. The law enforcers should conduct fresh drives against the muggers during Ramadan so that they do not dare commit crimes like mugging and hijacking and the common people are safe from criminals and miscreants.
