Benefit of staying fit

There is both good and bad news. The good news is that citizens of the capital city, at least, have become relatively more health conscious. This is reflected in the ever increasing number of physical fitness facilities such as well-equipped gymnasiums where more and more fitness enthusiasts are crowding in. The bad news is that a significant proportion of children here, as reported in a leading newspaper, are becoming overweight largely due to their addiction to fast foods. What about other large cities of the country is not known. But it can be assumed that developments on these fronts are more or less similar, with the capital leading the way.

Visiting gymnasiums is good. But people from all segments of society cannot afford the luxury because of the high cost involved. True, open spaces are scarce in this capital or other cities. So there is some compulsion to take physical exercise indoor. But accumulated wealth also finds some way to dispose of a small proportion for fancy fads. If one of these fads concerns regular visits to a gym, this habit should not go unappreciated. Now not all such gyms are supposed to be well-equipped and well-maintained. What proves most crucial is undergoing the fitness regime under the supervision of a knowledgeable trainer. Otherwise, such endeavours can cause more harms than good.

On the positive side, some of the corporate houses have installed fitness corners in their offices, headquarters to be precise, expressly to help their executives stay fit. This surely is a good initiative. Similarly, housewives are increasingly showing their interest to visit such fitness facilities. Instead of idling away their time at home, women are appreciating the virtue of maintaining body shape and sound health. This is a positive sign for society. Such women are expected to take better care of their children as well. But the problem here is that children need space to participate in sports and games. Within the four walls of a gym they will not enjoy any physical exercise.

The phenomenon of fast foods once again points to the fact of wealth aberration. If women are conscious of their own physical fitness, certainly there are others who stay away from any kind of physical exertion, let alone exercise. They gain weight and also do injustice to their children's health by not discouraging the latter to eat fast foods and drink harmful beverage. On the other hand, those who have not enough money to visit gyms should have no reason to feel sad and advance excuses for not taking physical exercise. All one needs is a strong will. Whatever little space is still left offers a respite from the hectic life early in the morning. Free-hand exercise, running or walking depending on age and other conditions can be enough for the purpose. Even those who for some reason cannot get up early in the morning can make time for such exercises in the evening. One can stay fit without costly sports equipment. After all, fitness has immense influence on productivity.
