Blood donation: An act of humanity

December 13, 2018 00:00:00

Blood donation is a higher form of service towards humanity. The practice is prevalent in most countries of the world.

But in Bangladesh, most people do not want to donate blood for various reasons. Most of these reasons are baseless. As a result, when a patient needs blood, often his or her family members are forced to contact blood donor organisations.

Anyone between the ages of 17 to 64 years can donate blood. Before the blood donation, the doctor checks the health of the donor and if the doctor finds the donor fit for blood donation only then the donation takes place.

After the donation, a donor's body automatically replenishes the lost blood plasma within 72 hours and red cells within 36 days. On the other hand, the human body has an amazing capacity to replace new blood with donated one. Blood donation makes the donor weak-this notion is a myth. Rather blood donation is good for the donor as regular blood donation ensures proper blood regulation and also maintains a balance in the iron level of the donor's body.
