ISLAMABAD, (Pakistan), Oct 22 (agencies): Bombings rippled through northwestern Pakistan Friday, killing six soldiers in the tribal region and three people outside a mosque in Peshawar, authorities said.
Military officials said an explosive detonated near a military convoy close to a village in Orakzai-one of seven districts in Pakistan's tribal region along the Afghan border.
The victims of Friday's attack included a lieutenant colonel, said the two officials, who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak to the media.
The Pakistani military declared victory against the militants in Orakzai in June, after launching an offensive there against the Taliban.
Friday's bomb attack and recent aerial strikes targeting alleged militant hideouts may indicate the fight is not yet over.
In the Peshawar blast, 20 other people were wounded, Peshawar police official Mohammad Naeem said.
Senior Peshawar police official Liaqat Ali said it is likely that the attacker was disguised as a worshipper and placed the bomb along the walkway as he was exiting the mosque.
