Sadly, border killings by the Indian BSF continue despite efforts from both governments. This is creating an unnecessary pressure on our bilateral relations. High-ups in the Indian government repeatedly assured us, but we are yet to notice any tangible improvement in the situation. Killing of civilians on the border is the highest form of human rights abuse and it must be stopped immediately.
Due to current political unrest, reports of killing on India-Bangladesh borders do not get due media coverage. But such incidents continue to occur and are viewed by many as a failure on the part of Bangladesh government as it has failed to stop our people from being killed on the India-Bangladesh border. In all fairness, I think, the matter should be taken up by Bangladesh authorities with Indian administration at its higher level on a regular basis so that incidents of border killings come down to zero. If, in spite of such efforts, no noticeable result is achieved, we can take the matter to the international forums and bring it to the notice of the international community, so that the problem is solved on a multilateral level. In brief, we must make all efforts to ensure safety of our people at all costs.
