Female entrepreneurs were an unheard of thing only a few decades ago, but today it is a budding reality. Therewas the stereotype that the job of Bangladeshi women, known by the so-called appellation of homemaker, would be limited to handling of their respective households.Now many female entrepreneurs are entering the market, breaking the tradition of patriarchy, brick by brick.
Contrary to the adverse effects of Covid-19 on business enterprises, female entrepreneurs are on the rise. They have used the new "work from home" culture to their advantage, monopolising on lower operation costs as utility bills are low due to the lockdown while their business promotion is mainly donebywordofmouth. Online platforms are used to establish business operations ranging from online boutiques, catering services and homemade crafts to export and import of foreign products.
These women personify entrepreneurial characteristics like resilience and risk-taking and are therefore operating successful business ventures during such unprecedented economic conditions.The surge in their number is reassuring. Female entrepreneurs are not only breaking the glass ceiling of gender stereotypes but also impacting and veering the Bangladeshi consumer habits towards online shopping to a level that might perpetually change the norms of the typical pre-Covid consumer habits.
