Breaking the silence and lighting Aids

December 11, 2014 00:00:00

Every year on 1st December, World Aids day is observed to create awareness among the common people about the deadly disease. People around the world wear red ribbons to express their solidarity with the Aids patients and create awareness about the deadly effects of Aids.

In a statistics it has been found that 36 million people across the world have been affected during last 30 years. In Bangladesh the first Aids case was detected in 1989 and since then 1500 cases have been recorded.

We cannot neglect it anymore and remain oblivious of its silent spread. Injecting drug users, prostitutes and gay people are considered high risk groups. Migrant workers are another risk group and they account for a significant part of HIV affected people across the world. We must be united in our fight against Aids and talk about it openly so that awareness is created. We should obey religious values and teach our children so that they can remain safe from it. It is high time we break silence and speak aloud.
