Breast cancer rate alarmingly high
August 09, 2025 00:00:00
Bangladesh now has the highest prevalence of cancer among women in the world. Particularly alarming is the rising rate of breast cancer among women aged 30 to 44, with 19 out of every 100,000 in this age group diagnosed with the disease. The overall cancer situation is worsening day by day, calling for urgent attention and action from all sectors of society.
While medical advancements in breast cancer treatment in Bangladesh are commendable, the emotional and psychological well-being of patients must not be overlooked. A doctor's empathy can play a powerful role in a patient's recovery. It is equally important for healthcare providers to treat both the body and the mind. This holistic approach can significantly improve outcomes.
Bangladesh has made considerable progress in breast cancer care. Not long ago, the standard treatment involved removing the entire breast, including parts of the areola. Thanks to improved techniques and technology, such invasive procedures are no longer always necessary, and treatment durations have decreased.
As we confront this growing public health challenge, continued investment in medical infrastructure, early detection programmes and patient-centred care is essential. Awareness, compassion and collaboration among medical professionals will be key to ensuring better outcomes for those affected.
