Bring PT classes back to schools

March 28, 2022 00:00:00

Gone are the days when attending PT (physical training) classes was mandatory for students in schools. For most of our schools, those PT classes no longer serve their purposes. What is more worrying is that many of these educational institutions do not even have any playgrounds or campuses suitable for arranging such sessions.

In my view, excessive focus on 'serious studies' cannot help children shape a holistic personality. Physical activity and sport have to be integral parts of a child's curriculum to foster both physical and mental faculties of a student. If there is no physical activity, students may go into a shell of their own, resulting in unhealthy adults of tomorrow. Parents, teachers, school authorities and policymakers need to be sensitive to children's requirements. Restarting PT classes in our schools is a must in the interest of our children's well-being.
