Budget airlines can help country's tourism

January 09, 2019 00:00:00

Travelling by air is no longer a luxury, thanks to the growing number of budget airlines operating in many countries of the world. Affordable ticket prices are encouraging everyone, especially young people, to go on trips during their holidays. The trend is helping outbound and inbound tourism in many countries.

There are a number of tricks that travellers use to get a good deal on their tickets. Most travellers plan a trip and book tickets two months in advance on a budget airline. In the process, the buyer purchases the tickets at nearly half its original price.

Budget airlines like Air Asia, Flydubai, Air Arabia and others also provide additional services that can be accessed upon paying additional fees. So, a flyer can customise the services he or she needs like increased baggage, in-flight meals etc. and only pay for these.

Thanks to budget airlines, many national and private airlines are being forced to offer low-priced tickets as part of different promotional campaigns.

These are all great developments for tourism.

Our government can consider these aspects and come up with strategies through which budget airlines can be used as a tool to boost Bangladesh's tourism. Maybe, budget airlines operating in the countries of South Asia can be allowed to fly to and from Dhaka, Chattogram etc. That can significantly increase the inflow of tourists from those countries to Bangladesh.
