Building a moral society

Moral society is a society or a group of people where the society members try to persuade other people to lead a moral and decent life. A moral society must discipline the activities of people in general.   But with the passage of time, we are gradually becoming self-centric or busy with ourselves only, and paying less attention to what other people do for society.
On the other hand, we are letting people do whatever they want to do, by maintaining our silence, even if the activities wreak havoc with us, with our next-door neighbours, or with society as a whole. Our tendency to avoid complexities, which may be prompted by our assertive voice against wrongdoers or corrupt people, is making us corrupt also. If our tendency to remain silent against corruption, injustice or immorality continues further, the next generations will hold us liable for not being able to leave behind for them a moral, equal, balanced, peaceful and corruption-free society.
Our society is filled with evils originating from degradation of our moral values and ethics. The majority of the population in society is still good, but the wrongdoings of a few are causing sufferings to the disadvantaged majority leading to accumulated anger and despair among them. We have long been hostage to the hands of the corrupt people. The whole nation is being made to take the blame for the corruption resorted to by this vested interest group.
As days go on, things are sliding from bad to worse. Evil practices seem to be winning all the way. This can't continue forever. At this critical moment of our nation, some people should come up with the dream of putting an end to the 'rule of the corrupt', and lead the movement against corruption, injustice and violence.
Moral or ethical degeneration has almost engulfed life in Bangladesh. No area of national and social life is free from this vice. Prospects for socio-political stability, economic development and human security are grim in the country. Over the years, many laws have been formulated to check social problems arising out of moral degradation, but the result is disappointing.
Edmund Burke, Irish statesman, author, political theorist and philosopher, truly said: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men to do nothing about it."
It is we who are paving the way for corruption indulged in by others by playing a passive role, and by being silent over their dishonest activities. Thus to discipline human activities and to rein in the wrongdoings in society, we must break our silence and speak up.
The youths are a major driving force of this nation now. They can make it happen; they can build a moral society investing their efforts, valuable time and determination. They can take the lead to build a corruption-free and moral society that our patriotic leaders had envisioned and our next generations are looking forward to.
The task is simple; we just need to say 'no', from our deepest conviction, to the wrong practices, and do the whistle-blowing job in social networking sites to build public opinion against the wrongdoers. It's high time the youths joined hands to promote everything good and positive in our society.
