Case for economic zone in Rangpur

The government of Bangladesh has reportedly taken an initiative to establish a total of 100 economic zones across the country by 2030. This will directly help us increase our export earnings, and if established, thousands of new jobs will be created in each zone. They will also contribute to the overall development of the region and increase the purchasing power of the people. All these zones will certainly add value to our gross domestic product (GDP).
The government has not yet declared all the locations of the economic zones. The backward areas particularly, the Rangpur division should be given due consideration. And at least one economic zone should be set up in Rangpur because it has an abundance of cheap labour, educated young people, low-cost land and a number of other advantages. Implementation of such a zone can undoubtedly help remove the curse of poverty from the northern region permanently. The socio-economic change that an economic zone can bring about is quite obvious in the case of Nilphamari district, the development attributable to the Uttara EPZ.
