Cattle, duck farms inside Upazila Health Complex!

January 21, 2022 00:00:00

Even though they are quite well paid and enjoy many facilities from the government, many civil servants own and run businesses violating service rules. According to Section 17 (1) of the Government Employees (Conduct) Rules, 1979, no government servant shall, except with the previous sanction of the government, engage in any trade or undertake any employment or work, other than his/her official duties. The rules also prohibit a public servant to engage his/her family members to engage in any trade in the area over which such government servant has jurisdiction. However, Haripur Upazila Health Complex's residential area in Thakurgaon says something different. At least two farms -- one for cattle and the other for ducks -- have been set up there by civil servants and their families.

If anyone visits there, they will come across around 10 cows in the cattle farm, and next to it there is a duck farm. Many people visiting this area become surprised seeing such farms in a residential area owned by the government. We hope the government will take proper steps in this regard.
