Celebrating World Pharmacists Day

World Pharmacist Day is celebrated every year on September 25. It is a celebration of every pharmacist, pharmaceutical scientist and others who are part of this industry. The day gives us a chance to recognise and honour the service that pharmacists provide in healthcare systems worldwide. This day is devoted to acknowledging the critical role that pharmacy professionals play in the welfare of humankind. Pharmacists play an important role in taking care of people's health all over the world. Their expertise is utilised almost every day to ensure better health of individuals. However, this day has been observed quite silently in Bangladesh on Monday last. This day should be celebrated elaborately with a call to show respect to the pharmacists. On the occasion of the World Pharmacists Day, let us take a moment to commemorate pharmacists and use this opportunity to thank them for their contribution.

No medical system can be imagined without pharmacists. They play a crucial role in saving the lives of others. Pharmacists help provide the right medicine with the right dose to every patient. They also guide the patients and provide information about the medicines, dosage, timings and possible side effects. They contribute to the research of new drugs that can help assist the healthcare sector in future. However, many of these pharmacists suffer from a lack of facilities, social security, medical care, allowance and better standard of living. Moreover, there is still no opportunity for pharmacists to be recruited in government-run hospitals. Although 3,500 to 4,000 graduate pharmacists come out every year from our universities, many of them remain unemployed for long. A large number of pharmacists are leaving the country every year due to lack of job opportunities in Bangladesh. Patients are going to be deprived of standard service if we cannot ensure the presence of pharmacists in our healthcare arrangements.
