Chalk vs. cheese

I was reading an interesting story about unscrupulous butchers selling buffalo meat as cow meat or beef. Although there is nothing new about it and it has been happening over the years, it pains us at times. A few days ago, I was passing by Gulshan-2 kitchen market and found many buffalos and sheep near the butcher shops. I went inside the kitchen market and asked for buffalo meat. Unsurprisingly, no butcher shop admitted that it was selling it and therefore expressed its inability to deliver buffalo meat to me.

I asked one of the vendors, why all those sheep and buffalo were tied near the next butcher shop if buffalo meat was not being sold. Nobody could answer. Besides, often the butchers sell sick animals' meat as there is nobody to check such malpractices. Cheating customers with inferior product is a regular and common practice by traders in our country. The city corporations have failed to protect the consumers from being cheated. I hope the law enforcers will penalise the market committee where buffalo and sheep meat are sold in the name of beef and mutton. The price of buffalo meat is lower than beef price and the unscrupulous traders take this opportunity and fleece the common people. I hope, the city corporations will take appropriate steps to stop these fraudulent activities and protect common people from being cheated.
