Chashi Nazrul Islam

January 12, 2015 00:00:00

I was saddened to read the death news of Chashi Nazrul Islam. It is an irreparable loss for our film industry. He died after a prolonged battle with cancer.  He was 73. Chashi Nazrul was one of the most prominent directors and producers of the country and his timeless movie "Ora Egaro Jon" will always be cherished by the movie lovers. The movie was based on our Liberation War, which touched the hearts of all Bangladeshis.

Chashi wanted to be an actor but became a director instead. He actively participated in the war of liberation. His movie "Ora Egaro Jon" was the fist Bangladeshi movie based on the Liberation War. Bangladeshi movie is passing through a difficult time due to piracy and poor standard. The audiences have lost their interest in our movies and switched over to television and videos. Chashi Nazrul's movies were always above par and the audience loved them. He received "Ekushey Padak" and many other awards for his outstanding contribution to our movie industry. I hope, the government and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation will take appropriate steps to preserve his works, so that future generations can get to know about Chasi Nazrul Islam and his works.
