Cheating in the name of giving jobs -

March 12, 2019 12:00:00

We have thousands of unemployed people in the country. For a job seeker, getting a job is like getting hold of a golden deer -- a near-impossibility. So, job seekers are desperate and are not hesitant to do anything to get jobs. In many cases, they are lured into bribing, and many of them step into the trap-willingly or unwillingly.

A Bangla daily reports the other day that two persons--Tofael Ahmed Chowdhury, senior principal officer of Palli Sanchay Bank Limited and Supok Barua, senior binding officer of a printing press in Dhaka city cheated a number of job seekers who were candidates for jobs at Palli Sanchay Bank Limited. These two persons introducing themselves as HR personnel of the bank, demanded money from the candidates who appeared at the viva voce waiting for the final result. The candidates were assured of jobs.

Some job seekers believed and gave them money along with their original academic transcripts. But it was too late before they could see their money wasted. One of the candidates filed a suit against these two persons alleging that they had taken bribe, following which the two persons were arrested by the police.

Many people in our society complain that one needs to bribe to get government/bank jobs. I have talked to people and learnt that candidates can get jobs without bribery, and for that they have to perform in the recruitment test. Those who want to bribe look for the right persons. Sometimes they bribe the right people, sometimes the wrong ones.

Let us stand against this type of bribery. Let us encourage our job seekers to get jobs based on their merit and by performing well in the tests, and not by wasting money on bribery. In this way only, employment opportunities will be open to the deserving candidates.
