Child obesity is a matter of serious concern and we see a lot of obese children around us which was a rarity in the past. We see children working out along with their parents in gym. In our city there is hardly any open space where children can play and safety is the reason which prevents the parents to let their children go outside alone. Compared to the developed countries the problem of child obesity in our country is not that acute, but we must not ignore it.
There are various reasons behind a child being obese, like lack of physical activities, unbalanced diet, environment and genetics. Usually we see overweight parents have obese children. If high calorie food is readily available at home and physical activities are not encouraged, a child tends to be overweight. As parents, it is our duty to provide our children with healthy and nutritious food and also encourage them to be physically more active.
We should tell them to devote lesser time to watching TV and working at computer or playing computer games etc. Schools also have a role to play in this respect. The children should be encouraged to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities besides their study.
