Citizens concerned about law and order situation

The law and order situation has been deteriorating alarmingly in our country. We have seen the incidents of mugging, even in the capital, have increased. The law enforcing agencies have so far failed to make any breakthrough in the six tragic murder cases in the capital. We also notice a rise in extra-judicial killings by the law enforcers. Many international human rights organisations have already expressed their deep concern over the matter.

Of late a group of muggers snatched taka 1.7 million from an official of a multinational company in broad daylight. Such incidents create a deep feeling of insecurity in the minds of citizens. The first thing a citizen wants from the state is security of life because without security no one can simply enjoy any of the other fundamental rights. Our leaders are busy delivering fiery speeches instead of working for the betterment of the country and the countrymen. This is disappointing. The recent mayhem on the Rajshahi University campus shows that some could not care less for law and order situation.

Their pictures were published in the media but the law enforcers are yet to arrest them. We must not forget that selective application of law will lead to lawlessness.
