City corporation elections

I am glad that finally the city corporation elections of Dhaka and Chittagong are going to be held. I hope all the major parties will participate in this election. Dhaka city corporations have been running without any people's representatives for a long time, which is not fair. I also hope that this time the voters will elect the candidates who have proven track record, clean image and are well educated. I am sure the election commission will play their due role and regain the confidence of the voters.

The Election Commission (EC) has to prove its effectiveness and impartiality and the coming city corporation elections will be an acid test for them. The opposition should participate in this election and exercise their political rights. The EC should create a level playing field for everyone so that the voters can peacefully elect their candidates. The voters in this country are always eager to cast their votes and election time is like a festival for them. It is the only time when they feel that they have a say in running the affairs of the country.
