City election: Time to reconnect politics with voters

April 04, 2015 00:00:00

The city corporation elections are not far away and the voters are keeping their fingers crossed about a fair and peaceful election. It is also heartening to note that the opposition has decided to contest the polls. I hope the election commission will play its part fairly and will be able to create a level-playing field for all candidates. The law enforcing-agency members should not harass the opposition candidates and the EC must make it sure. The EC will be closely monitored for its actions and the common people hope the EC will be able to play its due role. If the ruling party tries to resort to unfair means it will commit a big blunder which will make our political environment more unsteady and volatile. I am sure the ruling party sincerely wants peace to be established so that it can work towards betterment of the country and materialize the simple expectations of the people. I sincerely believe that if the ruling party wants to gain the support of voters, it must uphold the principles and practices of democratic norms.  The people of our country do not like to see autocratic attitude from our leaders and they want them to be humble and truthful.
