Combating child abuse

July 07, 2022 00:00:00

Child abuse is increasing by the day. Our children are not safe in homes, from neighbours and even from their own family members. According to a study, the rate of child abuse incidents including death, rape, and attempted murder, increased in 2021 compared to the previous year. In 2021, 818 children were reportedly raped. It was 626 in 2020. Of all the child rape victims, 10 were boys.

According to the report, majority of these children, especially the relatively young ones, were raped by neighbours while playing or lured by acquaintances. Trapped in love affairs, teenage girls were reportedly raped. Even younger children were raped by family and relatives. Recently, a nine-year-old girl was raped by her 45-year-old uncle in her own house in Moulvibazar. It is horrifying that children are not even safe in their own home from their own relatives. There should be strict laws against such acts so that these evil people should be afraid and refrain from doing this.
