The number of rickshaws in Chattogram city is increasing daily, becoming one of the primary causes of traffic congestion on the main roads. While rickshaws provide convenient and affordable transportation, they often operate in the middle of the road without following specific rules, exacerbating the traffic problem. In certain areas, clusters of rickshaws occupy nearly half of a road, creating significant obstacles for other vehicles. Additionally, some rickshaw drivers demand excessive fares, causing further inconvenience for the public.
The authorities concerned should come up with a solution to this problem to free roads from persistent chaos and congestion. Regulating the number of rickshaws on the city's main roads and bringing them under discipline through strict guideline and monitoring is crucial. Moreover, strict enforcement of designated lanes for rickshaws could greatly reduce traffic congestion, allowing the general public to commute more smoothly.
