Concern about young people's heart disease

September 30, 2022 00:00:00

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Bangladesh. And the rate has been rising every year. According to a Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) report published in 2021, the death toll from cardiac arrests increased in 2020 compared to 2019. What is more worrying is a high trend of heart attacks among young people in the country in recent years. One out of every five young people in the country is reportedly at risk of heart disease. Yet, many young people do not turn for health check-ups unless the situation turns severe.

Young people nowadays do not get enough sleep, work too hard, consume unhealthy meals, and do not engage in physical activity. This is how they are becoming the victims of cardiovascular diseases, stroke and others. Unless the young generation clearly understands the disease and has the knowledge to encounter it, heart disease will be a major cause for concern for them. This disease can be prevented only by adopting a healthy lifestyle, doing exercise and avoiding junk food. On the occasion of the World Heart Day, celebrated across the globe on September 29, we must know the importance of keeping our hearts in good shape.
