Concern over math

Mathematics is the mother of science. So, at the very beginning of their schooling, our children should be taught math with great expertise and care. It is heartening to learn that creative question on math is going to be introduced in the JSC and SSC from 2014 and 2015 respectively.

But it makes us concerned that we can not see massive preparatory work on that issue. We expected that awareness programmes on this issue will be undertaken at all levels-- creative questions be printed in the daily newspapers, discussions and talk show will be aired on various TV channels and a lot of sample creative questions would be uploaded in the website.  A regular workshop and training on creative questions should be continued simultaneously across the country so that teachers will feel comfortable about it.

Moreover, sample math questions for grade five with solutions have been uploaded on the nape.gov.bd website where an answer to the question no 9 is wrong. I know an advanced group working in primary math who set the same questions from the website in a test to select teachers for their primary schools and all the candidates got zero marks on that question though they corrected it.

For greater benefits of our children, I would like to request the authorities concerned to familiarise creative questions on math.
