Congratulations, BUET researchers!

May 06, 2021 00:00:00

We offer our heartiest congratulations to the BUET researchers, who have developed a medical oxygen supply device that can ensure high flow of oxygen to Covid-19 patients without any electricity supply. The technology called OxyJet has reportedly been developed in less than one year by BUET's Department of Biomedical Engineering. The device can reportedly work as a substitute of high flow nasal cannula. What is more encouraging is that the device ensures high-flow ventilation at a low cost. When manufactured, itscost would reportedly be less thanTk 3,000 whereas a nasal cannula costs Tk 400,000-500,000.

We all know there is a problem with power supply in many of our hospitals. There is no electric outlet next to all the beds of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. If OxyJet passes all the stages of clinical trials, it will be a great help for the Covid patients, who need high flow medical oxygen. We should always encourage this type of innovation. We urge authorities to focus more on innovation and support these researchers so that they feel encouraged to venture more into such projects.
